The Lusail Stadium in Qatar will host the final of the 2022 men's football world cup on 18 December. Work began in 2017 and the stadium officially opened in 2021. The stadium has been designed to hold 80,000 people and features a cutting-edge design where every component has been devised to minimise the overall environmental impact of the building.

BONOMI INDUSTRIES has contributed to the construction of this world-class stadium by supplying our s.64 valves and CP5 and CT1 actuators.

The stadium had to meet precise sustainability requirements, to comply with the conditions imposed by FIFA for Qatar’s candidacy. Our valves and actuators are used to manage the collection of rain water and condensation water from the stadium’s air conditioning system which can then be employed to irrigate the pitch and the park outside. Other valves were used for a safety system to automatically shut off the system in the event of leaks.

The installation of efficient water systems and devices for detecting leaks helps to achieve a 40% saving in freshwater compared with traditional stadiums. In a country such as Qatar where drought can be a serious problem, that is a significant saving.

As a result, the system achieved a five-star score in the Global Sustainability Assessment System managed by the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development. A result to be proud of.

We were selected for the construction of the Lusail Stadium because of our technical expertise, client focus and the performance of our product.
